News: Veteran oil drum bashers rendezvous in Berlin!
Posted: Nov, 11, 2009

When visiting the big cities of the world, some people wear out the soles of their shoes running marathons. Others, however, are more comfortable taking the night shift. Geir Kaizer recently visited Berlin and by chance came across his colleague N. U. Unruh, fellow oil drum basher and founding member of legendary German experimental band Einstürzende Neubauten, a band Kaizers Orchestra often has been compared to, mainly due to the alternative use of percussion.

- Yeah, you don't get to meet a lot of colleagues in the metal junk percussion biz, that's true, says Geir Kaizer. - To be honest, we really aren't all that familiar with the music of Einstürzende Neubauten, but we have noticed that they've been mentioned rather often as a reference when people are trying to describe our music, especially at the start of our career. As for Mr Unruh himself, he had never heard of us, but he's a really interesting and nice guy. I'll definitely check out their music a lot more closely now!

- Aside from running into colleagues, what have you been up to? Have you run the Berlin Marathon or something?

- Ha-ha, no, I've mainly stuck to the old pub circuit. I've just finished a solo album, actually, so I took some time off to mark the occasion. Besides, we'll be starting a week-long Kaizers rehearsal session tomorrow, with loads of new songs, so I've been busy practicing new riffs and getting into the old Kaizer mode again. It's been a lot of fun, I tell ya. We've got lots of good stuff going on in the Kaizer camp, I can promise you that!

- Exciting! But solo album, you say? When will we get to hear that?

- The release is planned for late January. A lovely little album indeed!

Fear not, Kaizer News will be back with firsthand news regarding both rehearsal sessions and solo albums!
